COMMENTS FROM THE NORTHEN REGION MANAGER OF THE AUSTRALIAN WOOL NETWORK, HAROLD MANTTAN FOR THE LORELMO WEB PAGE
I have been involved with selling Lorelmo wool and buying Lorelmo rams for almost 20 years and have found their sheep to be bigger than most for their low micron (average fibre diameter for clip 16.8 microns) plus they are all polls, which a lot more producers are looking for these days.
Seeing they are bigger than the general run of super fine sheep they also have a heavier cut per head of very good length, deep crimping wool with great lustre and soft handling. Having been bred over many years in a very high rainfall area the colour of the wool is also excellent. This wool is purchased by the total wool trade mainly to be made into cool wool fabrics.
The hogget drop this year averaged 16.5 micron and cut 4.5 kilograms per head averaging 941 c/kg and returning $42.35 per head. The wether portion sold for $98.52 per head, a very good result in what are difficult times in the wool industry.
