COMMENT FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF QUALITY SOFTWOOLS AUSTRALIA

FOR THE LORELMO WEBB PAGE

Quality Softwools Australia (QSW) was formed in 1992 by Dr Jim Watt a scientist whose expertise was the skin biology of sheep and a Stud Merino Breeder, Mr. Charlie Massey.

The company was formed, in the depths of the wool depression, on the believe that a successful business could be built around keeping  “superior”, or as they became known, SRS wool types segregated through the processing pipeline,  from the more average types.

Since I joined QSW in 1994, I have learnt that while wool quality is important, there are many other things, more important, if a business is to be successful.

Wool is just one of the raw materials for the World’s clothing and fashion industry. If wools  desirable qualities are going to be properly exploited then it is obvious, that people are the most important resource of an industry; not the raw material.

QSW, born out of turbulent times, and having gone through turbulent times itself, has now been making sound and solid progress for over five years. This steady progress has been built on a small committed team of people who it is my privilege to lead.

Simon and Stephen Smith, our two key company operatives, are a doing remarkable job at building our Toorallie, GHG and Snowy River knitwear brands in the market place.

While it was the Lorelmo Stud Sheep and their beautiful wool that introduced QSW to the Cordingley family it has been their support as shareholders together with John’s sound business acumen, as a Director, that has been the most valuable asset to QSW.

Peter Small,

Chairman,

Quality Softwools Australia.
